Vehicle traces allow contact between objects and the mechanism of damage formation to be examined. When posing questions, identification from a trace must be distinguished from reconstruction of the nature and mechanism of interaction in a road traffic accident.
Subject of examination
- Tyre marks and traces from components and contacting surfaces
- Damage to vehicles and other objects
- A scene diagram, photographs, video and comparison materials
Sample questions for the expert
- Could the submitted damage have resulted from contact between the objects examined?
- Which parts of the objects interacted, and in what relative position?
- What direction and sequence of contact are confirmed?
- Are the materials sufficient to distinguish the identification task from the task of reconstructing the interaction?
The final questions are formulated according to the objects and circumstances of the particular task.
What to prepare
- Scaled photographs of all damage and overall views of the objects
- An event diagram, inspection records and measurements
- Inspection materials for both objects being compared
- Recordings, repair documents and specific questions
How the examination is conducted
The heights, shape, direction and mutual consistency of contact traces are compared. It is stated separately which elements of the mechanism are confirmed and which cannot be reconstructed from the available data.
Scope and limitations
Calculation of speed, braking distance and the technical possibility of avoiding a road traffic accident, as well as assessment of the road, are not automatically included in trace examination. Such questions may require a separate automotive engineering specialism.
What the deliverable records
The result describes the mechanism of trace formation and limits of reconstruction without replacing a legal conclusion on the participants' guilt.
Cost and terms
from RUB 80,000. The exact cost depends on the number of objects, complexity of traces, need for comparative examinations or a site visit, urgency and the scope of the report.
